A Strong Step at COP30: Istinye University Among the Signatories of the Youth Foreword

The United Nations Climate Change Conference COP30 was held in Brazil between November 10–21. Within the scope of the summit, the Parliamentarians’ Global Guide to Climate Change and Climate Solutions, prepared for parliamentarians around the world, was published. While many institutions worldwide supported the Youth Foreword section of the guide, the Istinye University Leader Student Group became the only institution from Türkiye to support this section.

COP30 Held in Brazil

COP30 (30th Conference of the Parties), organized under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is the highest-level global climate platform bringing together heads of state and government representatives, parliamentarians, scientists, youth organizations, and civil society organizations. At this year’s summit, critical issues such as emission reduction targets, climate finance, adaptation policies, and loss and damage mechanisms were discussed.

A Leading Global Climate Guide

The Parliamentarians’ Global Guide to Climate Change and Climate Solutions, prepared within the scope of the summit, is an international policy document developed in collaboration with the University of Exeter, Arizona State University, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The guide aims to bring together the most up-to-date global climate science and provide guidance to lawmakers, decision-makers, and parliamentarians worldwide.

Istinye University Leader Student Group Became the Only Turkish University Supporting the Youth Foreword

The Istinye University Leader Student Group reviewed the Youth Foreword included in the guide and unanimously decided to support it. This contribution represented an important step that strengthens a youth-centered climate approach, emphasizes young people’s voice in climate action, and highlights our university’s sense of global responsibility.

This process, demonstrating that the voice of youth can be reflected in global climate policies, also reinforced our university’s active stance on sustainability, climate awareness, and social responsibility.
