A Significant Step in University–Industry Collaboration by Istinye University
Istinye University has taken an important step toward strengthening university–industry collaboration by licensing six patents developed in the fields of digital transformation, pharmacology, and health technologies to five different companies. The launch event introducing the first patent licensing agreements was held on December 19 at the Vadi Campus. University administrators emphasized that efforts to increase patent commercialization and industry partnerships will continue with determination.
Demonstrating a notable achievement in transforming research outputs into economic value and reinforcing university–industry collaboration, Istinye University successfully licensed six patents developed in the areas of digital transformation, pharmacology, and health technologies to five separate companies. The launch event marking the first patent licensing initiatives took place on December 19 at the Vadi Campus.

Speaking at the launch event, Dr. Muharrem Usta, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Istinye University, drew attention to the role of intellectual property in the knowledge-based economy and stated:
“Intellectual property is not only about protecting academic output, but also a fundamental component of sustainable value creation. The commercialization of knowledge produced at universities holds strategic importance for economic and social development.”

Delivering the opening address of the event, Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş, Rector of Istinye University, underlined that university–industry collaboration is regarded as a strategic priority:

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bestami Özkaya also addressed the university’s expanding patent portfolio and commercialization vision, stating:

This licensing activity is one of the most important initiatives undertaken at Istinye University to date and represents a critical milestone in the transformation of research outputs into economic value.”

Also attending the launch event, Prof. Dr. M. Zeki Durak, President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, referred to Türkiye’s recent national and international achievements in the field of industrial property. Emphasizing the critical role of patent commercialization processes and industrial property rights in value creation, Prof. Dr. Durak underlined that the effective transformation of knowledge produced at universities into added value through robust commercialization mechanisms is of great importance for the national economy and the innovation ecosystem.
Istinye University aims to continue its efforts in the coming period to support the transfer of research outputs developed in strategic areas—particularly digital transformation, pharmacology, and health technologies—into industry, while further expanding its patent commercialization activities. The licensing agreements stand out as a concrete indicator of the university’s innovation-driven, entrepreneurial, and impact-oriented research approach.
