Istinye University Contributes to the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA)!

Bahar Biçen Aras Elected as a Member of the IFLA ISBD Review Group

Bahar Biçen Aras, Head of the Department of Information Resources and Library Services at Istinye University, has been elected as a member of the International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD) Review Group for the term August 2025 – August 2029, according to the results of the 2025 elections of IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions).

About IFLA and the ISBD Review Group

 

Founded in 1927 and headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, IFLA is a leading international, non-profit organization that supports the advancement of library and information services worldwide. Its main mission is to promote the interests of libraries, information centers, associations in the field, and all stakeholders in the library profession on a global scale. IFLA aims to ensure the delivery of high-standard information services, the preservation and accessibility of documentary cultural heritage; it also develops standards, supports professional training, disseminates best practices, and encourages knowledge sharing.

Operating within this framework, the ISBD Review Group is responsible for maintaining, updating, and promoting the ISBD standard, which was developed to ensure universal and efficient access to bibliographic resources. The group monitors technological and bibliographic developments to keep ISBD up to date, creates user-friendly guidelines, and works in collaboration with other IFLA bodies and international organizations to support global bibliographic alignment and standardization. The group consists of up to 12 members, serves four-year terms, and has the authority to appoint advisors and elect its own chair.

Bahar Biçen Aras’s election to the ISBD Review Group enhances Turkey’s representation in the field of information and records management, while also elevating Istinye University’s academic and institutional contribution to an international level.
