Istanbul Governor Inaugurated KGK’s “America in Turkey” Exhibition

The preview of a historical documentary exhibition organized by the Global Journalists Council (KGK), set to officially open next week at the Turkish House (Türk Evi) in New York, has begun at Istinye University. The opening ribbon was cut by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül.

Titled “America in Turkey: 1910–1970”, the exhibition features rare documents, diplomatic archives, and private collections, and was inaugurated at the Faculty of Communication, Istinye University. The opening ceremony was attended by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, KGK President Mehmet Ali Dim, collection owner Assoc. Prof. Sefer Darıcı, curator and Deputy Director of the Media Studies & Practice Center Dr. Özgenur Reyhan Güler, and Istinye University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Peyami Çelikcan, along with many academics, students, and members of the press. The exhibition aims to shed light on the history of Turkish–American relations through archival materials and contribute to cultural diplomacy.

Ahead of the “International Media Friendship Awards Ceremony” to be hosted by the Turkish Consulate General in New York on September 13, KGK will officially open the exhibition at the Turkish House. Drawing from the private archive of Assoc. Prof. Sefer Darıcı of Sivas Cumhuriyet University, the exhibition presents a historical memory of Turkish–American relations through visual documents, archival clippings, and rare objects, on display for the first time in Istanbul. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Özgenur Reyhan Güler and will remain open until September 8.

The opening ceremony at Istinye University’s Vadi Campus exhibition hall brought together not only Governor Gül but also Sarıyer District Governor Ömer Kalaylı, Beykoz District Governor Fatih Ürkmezer, Turkish Cycling Federation President Emin Müftüoğlu, former Mayor of Bakırköy Ahmet Bahadırlı, members of the KGK board and council, KGK member journalists, Gaziantep Journalists Association President and KGK Provincial Representative Meral Ay, as well as notable figures from the media, business, and political spheres. Students participating in MediaLab, a KGK–EU joint project hosted by Istinye University, were also present.
