History and Diplomacy United at the Turkish House in New York

Dr. Özgenur Reyhan Güler, faculty member at Istinye University’s Faculty of Communication, curated the exhibition “America in Turkey: 1910–1970” held at the Turkish House in New York, United States. On the same day, Dr. Güler was honored with the “Sustainable Diplomacy Award” at the International Media Friendship Awards ceremony.

Organized in cooperation with the Global Journalists Council and the Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye in New York, the award ceremony recognized individuals who contribute to international friendship and collaboration in the fields of media and diplomacy. Dr. Güler received her award from Türkiye’s Consul General in New York, Mr. Ahmet Yazal.

The exhibition showcases rare documents, newspaper clippings, photographs, and diplomatic correspondences that shed light on the history of Türkiye–U.S. relations. Spanning the period from 1910 to 1970, the archive reflects America’s perception of Türkiye as well as the cultural, economic, and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

In her statement, Dr. Güler said: “It is a great honor for me to bring this exhibition to life in such a symbolic venue as the Turkish House and to be deemed worthy of such a meaningful award on the same day. I am truly delighted to combine my academic work under the roof of Istinye University with cultural diplomacy.”
