BL4S Wins the 2025 European Physical Society Outreach Award
The “Beamline for Schools (BL4S)” program, run in collaboration with CERN and the DESY Laboratory in Germany for high school students, was awarded the 2025 Outreach Award by the European Physical Society High Energy and Particle Physics (EPS-HEPP) Committee. This prestigious award was given to BL4S for providing a unique opportunity worldwide for high school students to propose, conduct, and be inspired by experiments related to particle physics.
Strong Participation from Turkey, Great Hope
Prof. Dr. Serkant Ali Çetin from İstinye University, the national coordinator of the BL4S program in Turkey, expressed his happiness about the award as follows:
“BL4S is an amazing program that introduces young people to the fascinating world of particle physics. It’s more than a competition; it’s a global science mobilization for youth. The interest worldwide is incredible. What’s even more gratifying is that Turkey leads in the number of participating teams.”
“Turkey Leads the Application Rankings”
Prof. Dr. Çetin emphasized that they have been organizing training programs for years to support Turkish high school students in preparing for the competition, which has positioned Turkey as the leader in BL4S application rankings:
“Between 2014 and 2024, BL4S received over 3,000 project proposals worldwide, more than 400 of which came from Turkey. We have been organizing training sessions to encourage young people to prepare experiment proposals for this program. The strong interest in these trainings aligns with Turkey’s leadership in sending proposals to BL4S. Each year, more of our project teams pass the preliminary rounds or win special awards. I hope 2025 will be the first year a Turkish team wins the competition; I am very hopeful. In 2025, a total of 508 applications were submitted from 72 countries, and the results are expected to be announced soon.”
The Award Ceremony Will Be Held in Marseille
The European Physical Society’s 2025 Outreach Award will be presented to the winners at the EPS-HEP Conference, to be held from July 7–11, 2025, in Marseille, France. This prestigious award continues to be a great motivation in bringing science closer to younger generations.
