Strategic Support for Women’s Entrepreneurship through the Collaboration of Istinye University and USIKAD
A pivotal academic step has been taken toward increasing women’s entrepreneurship and employment in Turkey with the signing of a cooperation protocol between Istinye University and the International Association of Industrialists and Businesswomen (USIKAD). This partnership marks the first formal academic contribution to the institutional development of Turkey’s first Women’s Organized Industrial Zone (Women’s OIZ), currently pending approval by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Through this protocol, Istinye University will not only provide qualified human resources for the industry but also deliver robust academic support for women entrepreneurs via training, mentorship, and research initiatives.
“We Prioritize Strong Academic Partnerships”
USIKAD Chairwoman Müge Eker Öz emphasized the vital role of academic collaboration in ensuring the sustainability of the Women’s OIZ:
“Our first protocol was signed with Istinye University. This model encompasses not only the training of technical personnel but also long-term academic partnerships and shared knowledge generation.”
Comprehensive Support from Istinye University for Women Entrepreneurs
Istinye University Rector Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş shared his thoughts on the collaboration:
“We are pleased to support every educational and entrepreneurial initiative led by women. Through the Women’s OIZ project, we aim to establish mentorship links between USIKAD members and young individuals, helping to cultivate more informed and empowered professionals for the business world. We also plan to develop joint curricula and organize impactful training series in entrepreneurship and professional development within the framework of lifelong learning.”
Focus on Marmara Region and High-Value Sectors
USIKAD Chairwoman Öz noted that the Women’s OIZ is planned to be located in the Marmara region.
“We will approach women’s participation in the workforce holistically—economically, socially, and environmentally. Our goal is to build an ecosystem where women take active roles within the family, workplace, and leadership positions,” she said. Planned support mechanisms for women entrepreneurs include the Women’s OIZ Academy, a dedicated training center, and an incubation hub.
